indeterminate colitis

Thu, November 16, 2023 5:37 PM

i 60 year old male was just diagnosed with indeterminate colitis, was wondering if anyone else had this diagnosis, the endoscopy showed inflammation that had traits of both IBS, chrons and colitis, but unable to determine at this time which one it will become, my question is how long do it take to be able to identify and one or the other

Up to fifteen percent of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients initially have an ambiguous colitis diagnosis, therefore this is not uncommon.

Different types of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) might manifest at different times for different people. Ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease may not always be obvious symptoms until months or even years have passed. Your gastroenterologist will keep a careful eye on your symptoms, do further tests, and watch your condition develop over this period to get a better diagnosis.
