Fistula and Seton

Mon, August 03, 2020 7:40 PM

Hello everyone.  I'm new here but I have had crohns for about 30 years.  I have two perianal fistulas that cannot he fixed because they are old and too much scar tissue.  They are usually controlled with Humira, but a couple of months ago one acted up, so my surgeon put two setons in.  One already broke and luckily they could replace it in the office.  He says I'll most likely have them forever.  I don't like them and I'm ALWAYS nervous they will break. I believe my last option is to have my colon and rectum removed.  Anyone have any advice?  Thanks!!!

I've had my setons for years with no major problems. They do break. Last time I had it done under a general,  when they were sending me home I realized the doctor missed the fistula I wanted fixed. He gave me a local and put one in in fifteen minutes. I realized at the consult and surgery he totally missed the four inch square bandage on my hip.

how do you get to be a licensed colorectal surgeon and twice fail to check a large bandage on your patient's ass?
