Anyone have any experienced suggestions of foods to eat/drink during a flare up of UC? My wife has been struggling to find something she can tolerate during flares.

I have to stick with bland food with absolutely no spice. For some reason, eggs don't agree with me either. So, I believe protein bars and lactose free shakes may be helpful. Lean turkey w/out spice works too. Ask her Dr. for a low residue diet. Hope that helps. Creamy peanut butter is great too and lots of almond milk. Maria.

I am doing avocado, banana, and hard boiled eggs. Avocado and banana contain enzymes like the ones we have in our digestive system so that is why they are usually a go to for people with colitis. And hard boiled eggs are apparently easy to digest. So happy I can eat them. I am also doing fish bone broth. Only fresh, wild caught fish with bones I can find in the stores are salmon steaks and whole snappers. So I'm spending a fortune. But it's really soothing and is supposed to help build the collagen in the lining of the intestine. I tried homemade chicken broth yesterday and got pain and then a tiny piece of tofu today and it sent me to the bathroom. So I've been living off of the 4 things listed above for a few days after losing 17lbs during my first flare. Hard to gain weight and I'm worried about the effect of this limited diet will have on me. But for now it's all I got. Wishing your wife good luck. I know it must be taking a toll on you as it is on my husband.
