Probiotic brought on remission

Thu, January 08, 2015 4:54 PM

My daughter was diagnosed at the age of 3 with pancolitis. She used sulfasalazine, oral steroids and enemas for the first 2 years after her diagnosis with little relief. At 5 she was put on Imuran and had longer periods without flares but still required oral steroids at least once a year. This time last year she had a flare that left her in so much pain that she asked for a colectomy. Her team at Duke Childrens Hospital agreed after seeing her colonoscopy and we decided to aim for the summer of 2014. In the mean time I started her on a new probiotic. Its sold through a network marketing company so I was a little leary. Within a week her break through pain had disappeared and within 2 weeks she had normal bowel function for the first time in her whole life. A year later she is off all meds except for the probiotic and in remission. Normal CBC, Sed-rate, and fecal calprotectin levels that get better every time its run. She even got a six month break between appointments instead of the usual 3 months. I know from a parents perspective that these are insidious diseases and although I am not a fan of network marketing this product really did work for my daughter. If anyone is interested in more information on the probiotic just let me know.

The introduction of probiotics into my daily 33win routine brought about a remarkable transformation, ushering in a period of remission that I had long yearned for. These beneficial microorganisms seemed to act as catalysts, restoring balance to my gut microbiota and alleviating the persistent symptoms that had plagued me. Probiotics became the key to unlocking a newfound sense of well-being, marking a significant milestone in my journey towards improved health and vitality.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Forty years is such a long time to live with this kind of pain. The company name is Plexus and the product is ProBio5. The specific bacteria are bacillus coagulans, L. Acidophilus, B. Longum, L. Plantarum and S. Boulardi. My daughter tried several probiotics with no results until this one. Talk to your GI and see if they are ok with that combination of probiotics for you. There is a money back guarantee with plexus so if your dr okays it and you want to give it a try I included my info. If you have any questions please don't hestitate to ask. www.plexusslim.com/ShannonFox Rep #352103

I have had UC for almost 40 years and in that time the only medication that worked for me was prednisone.  Needless to say taking steroids for such a long period of time played havoc with my body.  Now the prednisone doesn't work well and I require higher doses over a longer period of time to get control of the symptoms.  The doctor wants to start me on biologics.  I don't want to do that because I'm concerned with the side effects, some of which can be very serious.  I would be very interested in trying the probiotic you used to treat your daughter's symptoms.  I figure it's worth a shot rather than jumping right into the biologic drugs. Can you give us more information?  Thanks.
