Getting pregnant

Wed, October 22, 2014 3:26 PM

Hi all - my soon to be husband has ulcerative colitis. He has had the j-pouch for 5 years. He's on a few medications that I'm worried will interfere with trying to conceive a baby. Although I don't know off the top of my head the medications he's on (I should probably memorize them soon!) I was wondering if anyone out there had trouble getting pregnant? I love him dearly and will of course be supportive if we have trouble...but I've always wanted children and I know it will be devastating for us both. If anyone has any suggestions or has been in my shoes, I would love to hear your story. I know I am probably pre-worrying for something that won't happen for at least another year but I really want a family with him and will do whatever to make it happen.

The human body is amazing! I wouldn't worry about his meds affecting getting pregnant until you've tried for a while. If you are healthy and he has the sperm count, there shouldn't be hiccups. I'm a student midwife and have worked with many mamas. Have fun trying to make a baby. It will be healthy for your hubby to have a fun stress-reducing activity to enjoy.
