I am currently 7 months pregnant, I've had Crohn's and Colitis for the past 8 years now I am currently taking humira as my one and only medicine to keep it under control. I was wondering for those women who have had babies which way did you have them vaginal or c-section? I have not had any flare ups in a long time and do not want any and I am really leaning towards having a c-section to be on the safe side. I think that if I have a vaginal birth all the stress on the body will cause flare ups or more. Any thoughts or input would be much appreciated.
Thanks

I currently have a four year old son and am ~12 weeks pregnant with my second child.
My first pregnancy was free of Crohn's symptoms and my second is going equally as smoothly. I'm currently taking Pentasa to try and keep inflammation at bay but am doing really well.
My son was delivered vaginally, and I expect my second to be the same unless unforeseen circumstances arise. When I questioned my doctor about this, I was told there shouldn't be any issues with natural delivery.
Also, the theory is that pregnancy lowers your bodies immunity which actually should put Crohn's at bay for a while.

I've had crohns since 2004. I ended up with severe preeclampsia at 34 weeks so they tried to induce. After more than 2 days of labor and getting no where they had to do a c-section because it was getting too risky for me to continue. I spent 10 days total in the hospital (half prior to her birth and the other half after). She spent 10 days in the NICU because she hadn't learned how to suck and swallow yet to eat, but we were really lucky that she had no other issues. She has since caught up in all areas and doesn't even look like a preemie anymore since she has gotten so big (25th percentile for weight now).
They did worry about how the c-sec would affect me with the crohns and it has since flared again. Right now they put me back on Entocort and I've been on Asacol since 2004. Good luck!

I was diagnosed with Crohn's in 2000. Had my first baby in 2002. Easy pregnancy, was in remission the whole time, and quick labor and vaginal delivery. Healthy baby girl. Had my second baby in 2005. Pregnancy complications (not related to Crohn's), but another short labor and vaginal delivery with no issues. A health baby boy. But have been having many flare ups since then and am now on Remicaide.

I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease in 2004. I had my son in 2005. Had a terrific pregnancy, labor and delivery. I did have him vaginally with no problems. My pregnancy seemed to put me in remmission for almost 2 years. I am on asacol and have been since the beginning. Good luck and enjoy every minute!!

Hi!
I wasn't diagnosed with Crohn's until after my three pregnancies. Looking back, I prob had it since Junior high. While pregnant, I felt great. Many ppl complain about being constipated-not me! I finally had some regularity. I had C-sections with all three. Of course, there are pro's and con's, but it was what worked for me!
Good luck and congrats!
