FMLA And Crohn's

Fri, February 26, 2016 6:56 AM

Im requesting FMLA because of my health challenges, but I am afraid to share even with my HR department about my Ostomy. I work in an environment where diversity nor confidentiality is valued. I have been dealing with a flair up. Is it acceptable/ethical to ask my doctor not disclose my Ostomy on the FMLA paperwork? It worries me that something so sensitive may possibly be a source of private ridicule and shared with others in the organization.

I was told by my HR dept that protection for employees with inflammatory disease is similar to disability act - look it up and advise your HR dept of the law to help them understand how serious your disease is

Having IBD and a job can be challenging at times.   Most individuals can work; however, some patients find they struggle to manage IBD and their job.   There are federal state laws that protect people with IBD.   Learn more in our Employment and IBD fact sheet at: http://www.ccfa.org/assets/pdfs/employment-and-inflammatory.pdf
