I was diagnosed with Crohn's about 40 years ago and had my first iileostomy for about 30 years. I have been though everything and now with my last surgery (can't have anymore) I have small bowel syndrome. My issue is that my new stoma is just above the belt line (waist) so when I sit or wear real close the pouch gets cut off just below the waist. This pushes everything up and the pressure make a leak at the top of the appliance. Does anyone know how to keep the pressure off the pouch so the out put will go down into the pouch instead of pushing everything out of the top.
Thanks Eric

I had a few more ideas about your situation. 1) Try a new style! Buy a trendy pair of suspenders and a few pair of nice slacks with a really loose waist line. The added inches in the waist line may prevent binding when you sit. 2) - Have you tried using skin barrier strips to extend the adhesive area attaching the pouch to your body? While I doubt this will solve the leakage issue due to pinching off the bottom half of the pouch, but it may slightly extend the wear time. Just be careful to maintain health skin. 3). Lastly, I have heard of people wearing their pouches HORIZONTALLY across their abdomen. For you this might mean that ALL of your pouch could be above your waste line. I'm not sure how easy that would be to empty the pouch but you could practice at home maybe. I think you might be able to 1/4 turn it to point the outlet downward to empty.
Just some thoughts and I hope you are feeling better.

Just a suggestion, but you might try a stoma guard or protector. Google "stoma protector" and click on images.
My thought it that it may give your waist band something to rest against while still being slightly rigid enough to keep the waist band from blocking stoma out put. Also the guards seem to have a little shoot or opening at the bottom which lets any output fall into the bag.
I hope this might help.

When I had an osteomy, I bought several pairs of slacks with expandable waistlines, and exercise pants with elastic waists. Also, they make an elastic belt that wraps around you and attaches to the bag. That really helps keep the pouch connected to the gasket.
