I've had uc for 8 yrs and always thought about attending a support group but for some reason still have not. Has anyone been to any support groups and if so did you find them helpful?

Yes, I attend regularly. They're GREAT. You would be amazed by what an incredible resource is in that room. Not only is there emotional support, but you have a room full of IBD researchers and ambassadors who can share their experiences and resources. It's a great way to learn about IBD in your community: doctors, pharmacies, where to find essential meds and accessories, which are the best bathrooms in town :-) and so on. Please go try one. You don't have to talk if you don't want, you can just go and observe and see what it's all about. Participate as much or little as you want. Good luck.

I had my first Crohn's surgery in 1964 and have never met anyone who can say that I also have Crohn's. I'm planning on attending my first support group meeting this month in Az. at the urging of my GI. He said that here I will find out that I am not the only one in Arizona with Crohn's. He also said that at the meetings people find out new info before the Dr's do. I'm looking forward to it.
