I just wondered if people are aware that John McCain healthcare plan for America will NOT COVER ANY PRE-EXISTING DISEASES! I am 58 yrs old and have had Crohn's for 40 years. This would be disaster for people like us!

John McCain's Health Care plan has nothing to do with pre-existing conditions, as what he is putting forward is not a 'health-care plan' as you might think of it.
He will give you a credit to help you pay for you health care. If you
already have the money to pay for your own plan, kudos and you will get
a refund in April. If not, too bad, the credit is there if you want it. If you can find a provider to cover your condition today, then you are fine. If you cannot, that will not change.
USA's health care will remain private and mainly unregulated. He will
veto any legislation put forward by Congress which would mandate health
care to cover people with pre-existing conditions, particular or
otherwise, or to force coverage of any American. This is because such legislation would require an increase of the premiums of everyone else who receives healthcare, or an additional tax. McCain does not support such an action, and such legislation would not pass during his term without cloture. This is not a question.
This is how he has put it forward on his website and in the debates.
Obama DOES plan to generate and allow Congress to pass legislation which would mandate coverage of people with pre-existing conditions. The only question lies in whether our country is capable of, or willing to, afford such a cost, and whether Congress will end up writing a law which Obama would actually back. These are always gray areas.
This is also how he has put if forward on his website and in the debates.

Do you still think that the socialized medicine offered by Obama is a better solution?

Your are right are healthcare system needs reform. I was made well aware of that when I was on vacation and had a bad flare. I went to the ER and realized I did not have my insurance card...what a nightmare.
It is not easy having Crohns (to say the least). It would be devasting to have a child suffering with Crohns. It would be unimaginable to have a child ill w/no insurance.
Who is best to reform healthcare? I believe both Democratics & Republicans need to work together to fix it. With that being said. I know that McCain has a history of reaching across party lines even if he ticks off his own party..which he does. H. Clinton's top advisor is backing McCain because of his ability to work with both sides. Obama does not.
I own a business. My employees have insurance/pension benifits. Everyday we bid against companies that do not provide for their employees. It is tough. Obama wants to tax my company more. We will be out of business and none of my employees will have insurance. While the companies that provide no benifits will continue on.
Truthful this election is stressful and we all know what stress can do. I can't wait til it is over. The great thing is that alot of us Americans are listening to all McCain & Obama's promises....we need to remember that who ever is elected we hold them to their promises. Take Care.

I don't think it is a debate, this is the reality of life with a chronic health illness. Along with being concerned about my daughter's health and well being as she grows up I now need to be concerned about what is going to happen in her 20s when she is too old to be covered by our health insurance plan. How will she pay her medical bills and what happens if she is not well enough too work? People with chronic illness deal with these issues every day and something needs to change about health care in this country.

I am also a voter in Ohio and according to that website, McCain's healthcare plan says that he opposes mandates for coverage. That scares me -- my 8 year old daughter has Crohn's and she will have a lifetime of prescription drug costs and medical bills. I think everyone with a chronic illness should think long and hard about the candidate who is going to really reform our healthcare system. I believe Obama is the one!!

Where did you get your info? I am an Ohio voter and I know how important this election is so I did some research on this healthcare issue at www.health08.org and it is not true about the preexisting conditions not being covered under John McCain. I swing neither left nor right. I do know to NEVER get my info about Obama or McCain (or lipstick LOL) from major news stations like MSNBC or CNN because they are so bias. For non-bias info check out this website. Good Luck! Hope this Helps!
