Hi everyone!
I am new to this community offered online but am not new to UC. I was dx in 2005 and have had the same morning patterns since. I feel the worst in the morning right when I wake up. I feel a lot of stomach pain and pressure always in the morning and have to wake up extra early to make it to a scheduled appt or work. I need the extra time to get ready before I leave the house and it truly is so annoying. I use the restroom most often in the morning and then sparingly throughout the day depending whether or not I ate the right foods that day. Due to this morning problem, I wonder if it has become a mental concern because if I dont give myself enough time in the morning I start to feel anxiety and that builds up so much stress right off the bat. Does anyone else experience this?? Please help in any way possible...noone can seem to give me any kind of answers. I wish I did not have this issue and frequent broom usage in the morning. Sometimes I intentionally wont do anything in the morning just because I am afraid that I will have to find a restroom immediately and be sick.....HELP
thanksss

You are not alone! Yes, I have the same morning issues.
To this day, in Remission, my UC has progressed to a point that mornings are spent in the bathroom, going at least 4 times before being able to leave the house. Therefore, I set my regimen accordingly, arising at 5:30am, eating breakfast as soon as I can, so I can get out of the house about 5 hours later, sometimes earlier. I find that eating dinner earlier in the evening helps make the next morning not so long in the bathroom.
I also take Florastor (expensive, but worth it, over-the-counter probiotic pill) 2x/day and if I eat the probiotic yogurt in the am that seems to help.

A year ago when I first changed my diet to a healing diet (Candida diet) I was taking antifungals, natural anti microbals, omega 3 fish oil, digestive enzymes, probiotics and multi vitamen.
Today I take a broad spectrum antioxidant, Omega 3, probiotics, multi-vitamen, and calcium. My diet is no processed food, no added sugar, no gluten, no dairy, a lot of good fats, low in starches.

My daughter has UC. She feels worst in the morning also. She doesn't want to eat in the morning. She does make herself a smoothie which she likes: coconut milk yogurt, banana, frozen fruit and soy milk. She can tolerate that but that's it. Are you on any probiotics? Since my daughter started taking Ultimate Flora Critical Care 50 billion before she goes to sleep, she feels better in the morning and poops a lot in the morning but feels much better since she started taking the probiotic. Her new doctor said lots of UC patients have "bacteria overgrowth" and the probiotic seems to help. She's also on Lialda and Azathioprine.

A lot of people have more trouble in the morning, because digestion slows down at night when you sleep. I would highly recommend that you take a look at what you are eating for dinner. You might want to do things so that your body does the hardest digesting during the day, when you are up and about: For instance, eat your biggest meal in the afternoon, instead of in the evening. Watch out what snacks you eat at night, don't eating anything for a couple of hours before you sleep. This might help your morning distress.
