Protein Shakes/Powder

Wed, April 15, 2009 7:44 PM

Hi. I was wondering if anyone has had success trying protein shakes.  I am 5 foot 4 and barely weigh 100 pounds, I am trying to gain weight, but would prefer it to not be fat.  I run at least 1 mile a day 4 days a week, gut permitting, and was wondering if anyone had any input on protein shakes/powder.

Thanks!!

When I was first diagnosed with Crohn's I lost a ton of weight and the only thing I could take to gain any weight was Ensure.  It tastes best when its really cold.  Hope this helps

Metagenics makes other products too, like probiotics and fish oil supplements. It also makes a product called "Inflam-X" I think. Does anyone here have any experience with it? My doctor was not supportive of these things- basically OK'd the fish oil, probiotics, and a vitamin supplement- so I did not venture into this. I am curious if anyone has tried it and what they think.

Why not healhly fats like olive oil, coconut oil, coconut, avacados?

But to answer your question here are a few shakes out there that are designed to be digested easily.

You might also try to do some isometric exercises -maybe about 10min a day.  Arm circles, shoulder raises, small leg lifts - to help build muscle but not over tax yourself.  This will help build muscle also.  Good luck!

I use Isopure - I get it at GNC and have been handling it real well.  It has alot of protein and vitamins too.  It is lactose free but it is processed in a facility with soy, dairy egg and wheat ingredients-so it can't technically be gluten or lactose free because of that.  I mix it with almond milk and coconut milk and it is really yummy.  It is a bit pricey-but it does have 50g of protein.  There are other good ones out there- I just haven't tried them-
