I know when I got Crohns. After my c-sec I developed a really bad infection. Dr put me in the hospital on a Mon and gave me a large dose of many different antibiotics. Fri he performed laposcopic surgery and he saw my small bowels going crazy. He sent me to a GI who did a colonoscopy found only small spots going from lg colon into sm inst. no dx. Two years later i formed an abscess and dr dx Crohns. Since then I have had a number of biopsys also w/crohns dx. As if I am waiting for a different dx.

Thanks for the advice. Currently I am looking for a doctor that will listen before putting me on mega meds. My current doc is a not a GI doc. If I do not take the meds he calls me noncompliant which isn't the case. I am in remission now so why would I need steriods flaygl iruman & asacol? Does anybody know of a good GI in Ft Wayne IN? I'm I allowed to ask that on this forum?

My first symptoms were just after I quit smoking. I don't know what the connection would be to smoking, but I've read about a few other people who had their first flare up right after quitting.

Why Crohn's disease starts is usually a mystery. I was diagnosed 13 years ago. I understand that there are medicines that may have side effects you aren't willing to deal with, however, you can't forget about medication completely if your disease is active. You need to try out different things to find what works. As of now, I am in remission. I have decided to go without medication (other than antibiotics every few months) at this point because I feel the side effects out weigh the benefits. My doctor supports my decision. It is important to have a doctor who will work with you to develop a customized treatment plan for you.
