Heat and Crohn's

Sat, May 30, 2009 12:00 AM

Curious to know if anyone else experiences IBD urgencies or nauseations from a flare up when outdoors in the warmer heat? I've noticed if I keep myself in a cold environment, my flares appears to be less traumatic. Interesting... Thanks!

I live in Georgia, so I now what you mean with the heat and Crohns. I find it more nausiating to switch between a nice cold A/C and stepping in and out of the hot summer air. I am a paramedic in Atlanta so I switch temperatures a lot throughout the day, which really puts a toll on me.

I live in Phoenix where it's been between 110 and 115 most days lately. I also had to take 2 amoxicillin when I went to the dentist. For an appt. that got cancelled as I was driving to the office. About 5 min. away. That combination gave me 2 bad days. What I usually do is eat at least 2 hours before I go to the pool. If I haven't had any problems in those 2 hours I feel it's safe to go. Then I eat again when I come home which is usually about 9 at nite.

I can't stand the heat at all. It's not as bad as when I was on 6mp but heat is not a good friend of mine. I wen't to king's island last summer with some friends I almost passed out. One of my friends went and got ice and put it on my head once she had some trouble getting it from the walk around vendor. She told him they'd have to fight if he didn't give her some haha.

Hi aca11, thanks for your reply... helps to know I'm not alone. Drs and loved ones look at me like ??? I love the outdoors and love doing the yard work! This year, the heat is taking a toll on me with my flare ups!!! The good ol days of seeing who could tan the darkest amongst the friends. I actually enjoyed the snow this year; made me feel like a normal person - cold vs. heat. Take care.

Yeppers.  I live in the PNW and the weather the last three days has reached 82 degrees out on the peninsula.  I've been inside most of the time, only because I can't stomach the heat.  No pun intended.  It literally makes me sick.  I know when I need to come in and rest.  Then I think of my teen years, basking in the sun with oils and music and getting the greatest tan of all.  Now I fear skin cancer and flare ups.  But hey, I'm not complaining, it sure beats that nasty four letter word, SNOW.  LOL
