I have Crohn's colitis, but my most serious symptom too is bowel urgency and the resulting frequency of bms. I also agree that sitting can create urgency - I often feel better when I'm up and about and not sitting.
Prednisone is effective in stopping flares (though it is certainly no "cure"), but you cannot use it for long periods of time due to its many systemic side effects. Besides, although it improves the Crohn's/UC, I always otherwise felt lousy on it. Anyway, you have to find another maintenance drug to keep you in remission. Have you looked into mesalamine enemas/suppositories? I found them to be somewhat helpful. They are often effective for colitis. How about dietary changes (SCD diet?).

Hello I am 23 years old and was recently diagnosed with severe UC. I am on prednisone and Lialda and Cipro aaannndd lol Bentyl which is like an anti-spastic medication for my intestins which is working ok I guess. Im not sure which medication is working the most cause I am on soo much. I work at a doctors office and they say that prednisone is a REALLLY strong drug and I guess thats why they dont freely prescribe it. It has bad side affects like bone deteriation and skin problems. But im sure you know that already. I had no idea that the morning sickness is common. Nice to know that im not the only one. Look into the Bentyl or Cipro it may help. But Cipro is very strong too so im not sure if the doctor will just prescribe it to you. Good Luck!

Hi there,
I take Lialda also and I think, with me at least, its just a matter of knowing and learning the way my body reacts, in the morning especially, and planning. The Lialda definitely has helped me by not getting so sick everyday but I still have to go alot. May sounds crazy but I usually plan to wake up at least thirty minutes early because I know I get sick to my stomach in the morning espcecially when sitting in traffic forever. When I get up in the morning the first thing I do is drink a big glass of water. This way it gets my body started and if I am going to be sick, I can hopefully still be at home. Usually this helps me but sometimes it just happens no matter what. Im still pretty new with UC so Im trying to learn how to deal.
