I have been diagnosed with crohn's for 4 years now.. ( 25 y/o) needless to say it has not been a fun ride for myself... or the people around me. I have been lucky in that I have a g/f who I have been with for going on 2 years.. and she has been very helpful in my times of need. besides the driving back and forth.. and the long hours waiting in the E.R.... wiating in the next room... then waiting in another room.. for hours on end.. she has done a couple of those with me too.
I have done more of those visits than I would like to now.. and almost look at another trip to the hospital as just another pit stop in my long road ahead of me.
I can say it definetly helps to have someone there for you.. and although nobody will quite understand exactly how u feel.. they can empathize.
this is already long.. but I was writing this to say.. don't lose hope if you don't currently have that "someone"... there is always somebody out there who is looking for someone who likes them for who they are too.. (they have their problems too.. just as "obvious" as excusing urself to the restroom)
hope this helps.. or at least was a good read...

it is very true...that having that significant other there for you helps out alot. i was diagnosed with crohns in january 09 and felt soo lonely and unwanted for the longest time. i recently started talkin to a guy that is very excepting of the disease and tries to do all he can to help out. even if its sitting at the hospital for 3 hours with me to get a remicade treatment. it really helps to have that puch from someone else that you will be ok and can overcome the emotions that come along with the disease. I have a quote i like to go by that i would like to share: "God will never give you something you can't handle in life." he picks the strongest of us all and we can all overcome the stress and problems that come with this disease. just thought i might share with you all a bit of my story. thanks for reading

with a disease like this it shouldn't be to hard to know that something is wrong when ur gettin up in the middle of the night 5 times.. or running to the bathroom right after u eat.. the signs are pretty evident that there is something that is not "normal".
As for a new relationship.. I would think that it obviously depends on how good the relationship is between the two of u.. as far as when to tell the person. This is a disease that can definitely consume your time and energy at it's worst points. So having a relationship can be hard.
hope that this helps.. hang in there :)

sorry it took so long to post back!! I thank u for the kind words.. there are not that many people that I know who have this disease.. and definetly not any guys. I was surprised tho.. that u mention that u have it.. and most people know someone who has battled the disease.
U do a great job talking to ppl on this site.. ty again for the kind words.

It definitely isn't easy for someone who doesn't have crohn's to know what you're going through. There is definitely a balance between having them understand what you are going through and having them smother you--treating you like you're a piece of glass. An ex-boyfriend was always terrified that I was going to shatter into a million pieces at any moment. How do you tell someone you're dating that you have this disease?

I have to say, hearing this from a male perspective does my heart good. I am sorry you have to go through this, but your words ring truth 100 percent. Just having one person there who tries to understand, stands beside you through the darkest of times and knows/believes you will get better makes all the difference in the world. If it weren't for my fiancee, I honestly don't know how I would have made it to this point. He doesn't have either of these horrible diseases, but he has gastro issues, so I remind him every day to take his medicine and even suggested he talk to his doc about getting a newer script (which he did and got) and he is like a whole new person.
You are a wonderful person and I hope you continue on your journey with the love and light the world has to offer.
