Everything I eat seems to be giving me problems. I do eat out a bit, and that is what seems to get me. Its not fast food, more like resturants, and i dont order bad food either. Ive had Crohns since 2004, I dont remember the extent to my condition, but i was put on lots of medications for that first year. After that i didnt have an flare ups except one a year since then. Im off my medication but i still have terrible stomach pains whenever i eat thing.. I have figured out that stress is a major trigger to my flarups... but what do you do when you have pain? How do you deal with eating out and dealing with the problems if you have them?

I rarely eat out. You just never know what you are going to get. I cook from scratch, organic if I can afford it. Soups are real good, easy on the stomach and very nourishing. If I'm out for any length of time I pack a cooler with food or snacks. Eat small amounts often. You have to stop making a chemical waste dump of your body. It will respond well if you do stop. I drink one 4oz. glass of milk a day and only water the rest of the time. Hope this helps.

I no longer eat out. If I do, I end up like you. I don't know what it is about food that I do not prepare, but I haven't had any type of restuarant foods for over 8 months now.

If this is a new or recent problem, I would suggest you check with your GI to make sure your Crohn's isn't starting to act up. I have learned the hard way that even "Healthy" food can bother me if I'm flaring. I hated to believe that high fiber food could possibly be the cause of my stomach upsets. Everywhere you look there are reports of how good high fiber food is for you, that , among other things, it helps clean all the gunk from the colon. Yet, if you have inflamed bowels from UC or CD, that same healthy fiber can be like taking a scrubbing brush to our sore, ulcerated insides. For that reason, I am trying to cut back a lot on my fiber, especially INsoluble fiber, which doesn't break down the way soluble fiber does. I just started making the changes on Sunday morning, and I already feel SOOOO much better. Sure, I miss my sunflower/flax seed bread and munching on raw carrots, but it isn't worth the pain. Once I get my UC under control I'll gradually start adding these foods. Like wanna said, bland is better for now.

I share your frustration. I had been dealing with these issues for so long (subconciously-as I wasn't diagnosed till October). Now that I know, I realize that every time I eat, there is a "result" of some kind. What seems to be helping the most is to eat VERYsmall amounts, and keeping the food VERY plain. Last night, for example, my husband ordered chinese food. I had 1/4 C of steamed white rice (he ate fried) and I had a little bit of steamed chicken (he had the greasy beef with garlic sauce). My gut behaved well for a couple of hours! Good luck!
