Hi all!
I want to badly have the life I had before Crohn's took over. I read
success stories and hear the voice in my head that says "just get up
and move" but I just don't want to!!! I am trying to eat right, but
there is so much I can't have which fuels my negativity even more!! I
am currently back on pred with a recommendation to start Remicade at
the end of the month.
What do you do to get motivated? How do you stay in shape??
I appreciate your openness and hopefully your comments will help!

I get that way all the time and I wonder the same thing. I know that doing yoga/pilates is good for me and would probably help my symptoms of IBD and the arthritis. It is just so hard for me to get the motivation to do it because I am tired and I do hurt daily almost from the arthritis. It doesn't help that 3-4 days of the week I work 12 hr shifts so exercise is the last thing I wanna do when I get home in the morning. It really sucks! That's one thing I do wanna talk to my Dr about the next time I go. I feel like I should have more energy because I just finished my iron infusions last week but I just don't have it in me to exercise. My head says yes but my body says no!

What motivates me is the fact that summer is coming! Time to hit the beaches and I don't want to be mistaken for a beached whale! All kidding aside, I know in my heart that when I workout I feel better, have more energy, less stress, and more importantly am a better mom to my kids for it.
I think the key is to find what motivates you and go for it. Whether it be looking better than a friend in a bathing suit (sshhh, I won't tell), wanting for run the CCFA 1/2 marathon, or the thrill of turning a few heads in a new outfit. You can take baby steps and see, feel a difference. You just need to stay with it. Trust me, it doesn't come easy for me. Plenty of day I would rather crawl back into bed, but instead I make sure I get my butt up, lace on my running shoes and just do it! I try to run a few days a week, do body strengthening a coupole days a week, and alternate that with pilates. I'm a better person for it.
Good luck

Hi! I have Crohn's - most days I'm really fatigued and it's hard for me to be motivated to exercise.
It helps me to have an exercise schedule: every other day I'll do a cardio workout video (or often just part of one, depending on how I feel). Then the next day I'll do some stretching (I got a book from the library: The Core Program by Peggy Brill).
So every day I know it's either "cardio day" or "stretching day". Since the type of exercise is already decided for me it's a little easier to "just do it". And since I'm either following a video or directions in a book, it keeps me on track. I'm only exercising 15-20min a day right now because I've been sick lately.

Hi,
Could I suggest talking to your dr about your mood? When I was on prednisone I got extremely depressed, you may need an anti-depressant to quiet the "I don't want to" voice in your head.
