I have had crohns for 7 years I am twenty years old and the lack of sleep is finally starting to catch up with me. The reason for lack of sleep, which I am sure most of the readers already know is the frequent bathroom trips I must make during a night. I am currently enrolled in college and I have morning classes that I keep missing because I do not have the strength nor energy to get up and go. I was wondering if any one has any advice for me to get a full nights sleep? Please help me!!

I don't have any tips on how to get more sleep but you should talk to your doctors. There is no reason for you to have gone so long without being able to get a decent night's rest. Also, go to your schools Disabilities office/counselor. I had trouble missing morning classes when I was sick simply because I felt the worst early in the day. I was able to have a note put in my record to allow for more absences and even eating or drinking in class. It came in handy when I'd have a minor flare from stress and not be able to turn in a paper or be in class for a project. Those extensions are lifesavers for your GPA and sanity. Hope that helps and that you get some rest soon.

Your problem is more from IBD than getting up in the middle of the night with trips to the bathroom. Your resistance and stamina are low. You need to try and get some help from your doctor. Your current program of care is not working for you. You can get all the rest that you want when you are in a flare and it won't do you that much good. You are just treading water. You need to stop the abuse from the IBD. You are in your prime and IBD is having its way with you, kicking your butt.
