Ultram for arthritis

Fri, April 23, 2010 11:27 AM

Anyone else taking the drug Ultram on a regular basis?  I have collagenous colitis and now developed some arthritis in my shoulder . I    am advised not to take NSAIDs ie Motrin/Ibuprofin. My GI doctor and  orthopedic/shoulder doc said Ultram should not contribute to a flare, but I am afraid to take it every day.  Took it a couple times and so far so good. Anyone else here taking Ultram?  ALso I might have to have surgery on my shoulder so what other pain meds would be ok???

I take it everyday for arthritis.  and on accident we found that it actually gives me energy.  So, instead of being in the bed or recliner all the time I am more productive than ever.  It has turned my life around.

I find it interesting (to say the least) that one doctor would say yes to Ultram and another would say no.  No wonder this disease can be so difficult to deal with. Thanks to your reply.

Once i was diagnosed with uc (last year) my gastroenterologist told me to stop taking ultram. It's a shame because it did help with chronic back pain but instead i have accupuncture every other week .I can deal with the back pain easier than a major flare up so its something to consider.Anyway best of luck.Try calling the company that manufactures it and see the warnings are.  good luck.

I haven't used Ultram, so I'm not able to shed any light there, but I wanted to let  you know that Tylenol recently came out with Tylenol Arthritis.   It may be worth a try.   Who knows, you may get the much needed relief, without the side effects that other prescriptions may give.  With regard to post-surgery relief, your doctor would probably prescribe something a bit stronger, depending if they are doing it orthoscopically or not, just to hedge off the pain and get you on the road to recovery.
