Hey everyone,
I have Crohn's disease, have been hospitalized, and am in remission on a steroid taper at the moment. I want to get life insurance (for future planning reasons wholly unrelated to the IBD). I was wondering if there were any of you out there who tried or did get life insurance after you were diagnosed. How expensive is it? Does IBD really raise the cost of life insurance? What provider do you use?
Thanks for any help,
Edward

I have life insurance and have shopped around. Yes UC and Chrones do raise the prices. They have told me it is because of all the inherent risks associated with the disease. I have only seen about about a 10.00 difference in different companies. Two that have had the best prices for me are Erie and USAA. Hope this helps. And no I am not an insurane salesman.
Good luck,

I just turned 49 and have been living with UC for 25+ years and have applied for life insurance 3 times over the past 6 years (I have a small policy and was looking to get additional), all 3 times I was rejected. Hopefully, you'll be lucky and be able to acquire some. Hey, if you do, can you post what company, I'll give them a try. Thanks and Good Luck.

Hi. I did get life insurance after being diagnosed with colitis. It wasn't hard to get, but did cost more. My husband had a very long line of massive heart attacks in his family (his dad died from one before the age of 50) and he is 8 years older then me and his rates were better then mine. I was shocked that just the existence of IBD would raise my rates that much.
I would be curios to know if your experience is the same thing - or if I just got bad insurance!
