Has anyone tried the SCD(Specific Carbohydrate Diet) Lifestyle diet?? I am at my wits end and am willing to try just about anything right now. Has anyone with Crohns tried this diet, other than the book promoters? I would really like to hear from actual people with Crohns that have tried it!!

did anyone make the yogurt that Elaine talks about? I am considering trying this diet again. I tried this diet in 2008 but didn't stick with it. I think I want to give it a go a 2nd time because I don't want to be on this Remicade forever. I as well don't trust many doctors because of their knowledge or lack thereof about natural cures/vitamins and the obvious.... diet! Even the best doctors will tell you that diet has nothing to do with the disease. It has everything to do with the disease.

Hi! I was diagnosed with Crohn's 4 years ago and the past few months have lost a considerable amount of weight, really fatigued, feeling really crappy. I was at my wit's end. So I did some research online about SCD and started it 2 weeks ago today...gotta tell you I am a believer...I feel better than I have in a long, long time. My cramps and diarrhea have been cut down about 60-70%, I have more energy. I am so thrilled by the results I have gotten in such a short time. The diet is really restrictive and there are tons of foods I miss eating, especially sugary foods, but I feel so much better on SCD that I don't see going back to my old way of eating at all...no way, I'm a convert now.
So give it a dedicated try for 2 weeks and see how you feel, good luck!

Crohn's sufferers have got to be cautious of SCD if you have an kind of strictures or narrowing in the intestine. Alot of the foods can cause blockages and do more harm than good.

Alan,
If it wasn't for you on this forum, I would have never even known about SCD. I just wanted to say thank you! Its changing my life already:)

Well, I was at my wits end with this disease myself. I've always tried natural remedies because, to be quite honest, I just have never trusted any of the doctors that I have seen over the last 10 years.
I started SCD only 2 and 1/2 months ago and I have already seen a massive difference! No pain when I eat, no running to the bathroom, and I can even go places now without thinking about CD! In the last 2 weeks, I added in a pro biotic called Florastor which I also believe is helping:) I don't eat any of the peanut stuff mentioned in the book either and I have no plans to add that in. I have been trying to keep it completely organic foods, whenever possible, more like Paleo would recommend.
So, I would say go for it! I plan on being on the diet for at least the 2 year mark. I've never had so much energy which is another added perk!

Another big fan of scd. I think the book is only promoted by those it has helped. Elaine Gottschall used few commercial links except for some recommended 'safe' vitaminns and in her lifetime she give lots of free advice. much of this can still be found on the internet (see Healing Crow website).
It has helped me enormously (uc) and I think long term there is real healing but symptoms can improve quite quickly. Expect a few ups and downs at the beginning (I had quite rapid weight loss for several months and for a while D was more unpredictable than pre scd) and you do need to follow it strictly. If you can persevere for a few months and look back the picture is much clearer than if you expect improvement each day.
Also look into removing refined oils from your diet and reducing omega 6.
