My 15 year old son has Crohns, he is in the middle of a flare up right now. My older son & I noted that my 15 year old has always had stomach issues in the fall even before he was diagnossed. When I asked his doctor if there is a seasonal allergy that effects the stomach. She told me there aren't any studies, but her practice is busiest in the fall with her patients having flare ups. She asked other GI doctors and they agree that their patients also have more flare ups in the fall.

If you suffer from flare ups in the fall more than anytime of year please share with me & also your geographic location. I have a few friends with IBS and Colitis they also experience more problems in the fall.

This is so fascinating to me. I call my flare-ups "Spring Fever" because the worst of it is in the spring for the last 3 years. However, this last round (that greatfully just barely ended) started in the end of October. I didn't get really bad, though, until April. Call it what you will, but October seems to be our most haunting month in this post, eh?

My flare ups always coincide with the fall. Right around the end of August to mid to late October is when the flares are worst. As far as location I live in SLC Utah. I too have asked my GI if there is any correlation and I had about the same answer. He did say he has many patients are seasonal but not a specific season. I was diagnosed in 05' and have flared all but one year out of five. This year has been the most mild of them, I'm on HUMIRA and it’s worked great thus far.

Thank You for responding. We have taken into account the stress of back to school. Also for adults the sumer is usually a more laid back time of year & fall we start a more serious time of year. My son was diagnossed 2 years ago, but my older son remarked that My younger son has always had stomach issues in the fall going back to when he was a baby.

It's interesting to see all the posts of people who have flare ups in the fall from all over the country. I wonder is their something to it?

I too seem to have flares in the fall, but I am beginning to wonder if allergies and flares are related? It seems like when my allergies are acting up my UC follows suit. My allergies are mostly related to pollens, mold, etc. not food. I live in Missouri so spring and fall are really bad allergy seasons. Could your son's fall flares be tied to either stress or his daily routine changing when school starts?

I was diagnosed with Crohn's in Oct 2008, and had my first very bad flare up since in Oct of this year. I live in South Central PA.

However, before being diagnosed with Crohn's, I noticed that I would always have stomach problems that started right around my birthday which is dec. 19th, and they'd pretty much last until New year's. I actually stopped having the b-day problems about a year before I was diagnosed with Crohn's.

I have UC and I have a flare starting at the end of Aug. Mid Sept. to about the end of Nov. every year. I have a colonoscopy every 6 months in the Spring I am in remission come the 6 month follow up I am flaring never fails.
I have lived in Norther Nevada for 3 years and grew up in NH.
I asked my Dr. the same thing and he said even though studies havent been done it doesnt mean that theres not a connection to it.

I've always lived in either Indiana or Michigan, and routinely every fall I flare up.  Generally, I flare every 4 months though, so I don't know if it's due to the seasons or just the passage of that amount of time.  I've been allergy tested and all I react to is mold.

I live in Massachusetts and I always have flares in the fall with varying degrees of severity.  I noticed this trend a few years after I was diagnosed and try to be super strict with my diet in the summer and fall.  Right now I am going through a difficult flare that started in July and just won't go away.

I live in Wisconsin and I too have flare ups every fall, and it seems like they get worse every year. I cannot say with certainty whether or not I have always had problems in the fall or if it had only been since I was diagnosed a few years ago, but I do know I am having a terrible flare right now.
