Sweet Tooth

Sat, November 06, 2010 3:09 PM

Hi.  I know it's after Halloween but I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with candy?  What kind?  I tried a Three Musketeers (mini) and it was okay.  I know to stay away from licorice.  I'm watching the fat content and that has helped.  I have crohn's, ulcerative colitis and ibs.

Thanks!

I have a sweet tooth, too, and it can be tough when my Crohn's is flaring. I sometimes eat a 3 Musketeers, too, but not a candy bar fan, don't know why. I found a store that sells meringue kisses (Tom Thumb or Randall's). They're in the bakery section, in clear plastic tubs, called meringe cookies, though they seem more like candy to me. I also like the flavored mini rice cakes, like Quaker makes, though some seem to have a higher fat and fiber content than others, so check and see. I like the carmel corn and chocolate flavor. They have a cheddar cheese flavor I like, too, nice when you're craving chips.

When weather's hot, an occasional fudgsicle is generally easy on the tummy. And as for candy, simple things like jelly beans, gumdrops, and soft, after-dinner style mints are pretty digestible. I try not to go overboard on any foods, can overload the stomach, but when I've got a craving, these seem better than other stuff. Hope this helps.
