I was diagnosed with colitis in November, and I've been finding it difficult to see patterns in what seems to trigger pain or other problems. One thing that comes and goes is pain and urgency triggered by sitting for a period of time- it could be for 30 minutes or 30 seconds depending on how I am otherwise feeling. (I don't feel bloated, though I did for a while.) This makes it difficult for me because I am a full time college student (5 classes). Fortunately all of my professors have been very understanding and have let me stand in the back of the room during class if I need to (this make taking notes an interesting challenge). The most frustrating thing is trying to write papers or do anything on computers (even right now I am not feeling that great). It seems that the more reclined I can be while sitting, the longer I can sit, but I haven't found a way to recline and still look at a computer screen and type. Does anyone else have this problem with sitting? Have you found ways to deal with this problem?
Thanks

There is a pretty darn good chance you have something going on with your anus from the IBD. If it is internal than I would suggest doing YOGA to help stretch and strengthen your muscles. My back kills me all the time to. I saw a doctor and there is a bunch of exercises you can do strenthen your back. If anybody is interested let me know and I will post it.
Best,
Mike

First of all, I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties you're having. You have my sympathy, I was diagnosed with UC in 2006. I find it difficult to sit on hard surfaces (i.e. uncushioned chairs) for very long. I started taking a chair cushion to church with me in order to make it through. :) You might experiment with that, depending on what kinds of chairs you normally sit on. Hang in there and make sure your GI is working with you to try to minimize your symptoms.
