My son is searching for a work environment that does not require any or very little contact with the public. He has 2 bachelor degrees and 1 graduate degree .... all business/math oriented. He is not employed (meaning he has no income and no health insurance) and lives at home, not just for economic reasons but because he has to be a few feet from a restroom at all times and therefore cannot even travel or be in contact with a person on a phone when he might have to leave the person hanging if he has to dash off to the restroom.
Traveling (eg. to doctor or hospital for tx) can be a complex experience as accidents happen he might have to change clothes at the destination. Last job was seasonal (answering phone and taking orders) but he was let go (not fired but not called in to work) because the customer disconnected the call even though my son explained he would have to put caller on hold for minute or two ...... this became a repeated pattern which became clear to the employers ..... therefore he was not rehired the following year.
Bottom line .... I have an extremely well-educated and intelligent son (34 yrs. old) who has become a hermit ..... I enjoy having him at home because he has a wonderful sense of humor, knows computers backwards and forwards and is as helpful as possible (although the "help" is of a more cerebral nature and not physical as he is 6'2" and only 106#). My question to you is where can he start looking for employment? A work-at-home might be ideal but the "training" costs for such a job are rather high and there is no guarantee of an income (on-line scams). HELP!!!!!

He might like to try out elance.com or one of the many other freelance websites.
Also many states have high risk pools he can qualify for to get health insurance. CA, CO, IL all do and I'm sure there are many, many others.

Have him check out workathomejobs.org. The vast majority of the jobs are legit and the listings are broken down by the type of work. Some of the jobs are for a single project, but others are ongoing.

first and foremost let you your son know he is not alone in this battle. does he have any hobbies that can possibly turn into a career oppurtunity ?? something with math involved ?? why has he not applied for ssi ( social security ) it is certain that he will get approved and though the income will not be anywhere near what his potential can be , he will have the most important thing which is health insurance. there are many inventions and innovations thought out everyday by regular folks, im sure he will brainstorm an idea that can have promising effects. last but not least, what is his relationship with GOD ?? if he has one great continue to have Faith. If not, he should begin to have a relationship with him.

I know a lady who did accounting from her home when she was sick. If he used whatever degrees that he has I'm sure he could start his own home based business. If he's good with computers there are tons of things he can do with that from home.
My mom did transcription at home when we were kids so that she didn't have to leave my brothers and I with babysitters while she worked, but that doesn't even require any kinds of degrees, and so it doesn't pay that well.
