I forgot to mention. It's quite easy to apply for disability. Actually some attorney's, even those that specialize in SSD, SSI ect, won't take your case unless you've been denied and need to appeal. I called a few lawyers and it just made sense to apply independently and see what happens. Get all your medical records from your doctors and complete all the necessary forms and then just wait.

Hi! I am 25 and have had UC for 5 years. I was unable to work for about 3 years, so I decided to file for disability. This was back in 2006. I was denied twice, and ended up having to get a lawyer and have a hearing. While waiting for my hearing, I finally started responding to medication, so I got a job as a nanny, which worked out well, bc I worked in a home and was ALWAYS near a bathroom. I then had to change my claim for disability to a "closed" amount of time, meaning just the time I couldn't work. I was awarded it, and the plus side is, if I get too sick to work again, I can still file again. So my advice is to file, they will probably deny you, then appeal it and get a lawyer. In my experience it did take a REALLY long time to get anything from disability, so don't get discouraged. IBD are not considered debilitating diseases under the law unfortunately. Which really sucks. But just keep at it! I hope this helps!

I know how you feel. There are things I can do some days and other days I cant. It seems my brain doesnt even work like it used to work. Do you have problems with anxiety or depression?
If you dont mind, email me at clarkleanned@gmail.com. I dont want to post alot of personal information for everyone to see or receive.
I have been in this process since March and I am now in the Reconsideration mode. If this company doesnt think they can help you, they will tell you from the start. They also have a website you can check out.

I would be interested in that information leelee.
I've not really thought of myself as disabled however I'm spending more time in hospital and the joint related symptoms of CD are becoming especially problematic.

I am in the process of filing for my disability. I am going through a company that does this and nothing else. It's not an attorney and they do everything over the phone with you, talks with the Disability Determination Services so, you don't have to, contacts all your doctors, etc. My brother went through them for his disability, different from ours, and was very pleased with them. If you are interested, let me know and I will give you the contact information.
