I have had UC for 4 years now. I have noticed over the years that I frequently have joint pain, usually in my elbows, knees and fingers. I recently have had an issue with my jaw locking up in the morning. I am wondering if the inflammation from my UC is also effecting the joint in my jaw....? Anyone else have any sore joint issues. Please share any feedback.

I know when I was on prednisone I used to get terrible arthritis, and although I've been off of it for some time my physician recently had some blood work done to test my rheumatoid markers (I think). Everything came back okay, but it is definitely common for folks with IBD to have joint problems. I intend to ask my GI if it is okay to take a supplement such as oregano oil or glucosamine. My hubby, who does not have IBD, used to have joint problems and now swears by glucosamine.
Good luck!

See! People call me crazy, or don't believe me, when I say it causes joint pain! That the additional hip pain makes it further difficult to sleep by having to roll over as they're really sensitive. But yeah...just sounds like TMJ. Does anyone else in your family have tense jaws? My dad and brother have it, so yeah, I know what I have. As soon as I've got the money for it I'm buying a mouth guard because whew...it grinds the teeth up somethin' fierce. And with the number of meds we have to take, our teeth aren't in the best shape anyway :)

I have always had joint issues with my colitis. Mine is mostly in my knees, but I do notice problems with other joints like my ankles and shoulders. I have problems with my jaw too, but I believe it is due to grinding at night, the same way I blame my neck and back problems on "sleeping on it wrong". Although, I may have problems with those joints that sleeping exacerbates. Who knows? There are mouth guards for grinding. If that is contributing to your jaw problems.

I have joint pain too. My elbow and hip mostly. Sometimes my back. I had a MRI done this week and am waiting on the results to find out what it might be. My GI says the elbow isn't normally a joint that will hurt with ulcerative colitis but I know it is that. They are checking me for other autoimmune problems, like rheumatoid arthritis.
