gall bladder removal and colitis

Hello, I have recently discovered that I have gallstone which means my gall bladder is likely going to be removed. I'm looking for resources/personal experiences/information about how removing my gall bladder might affect my colitis. Thank you, Jeanine

The diagnoses of gall stones and the surgery all happened so fast, I didn't try anything to help them go away. It went very smoothly and didn't spike a activity of my UC. Although during that time, before I was diagnosed, I was dealing with bacterial overgrowth in my lower intestine. With some of the symptoms being similar to the UC. That actually was going on for several months before diagnoses using a breath analyzer. Antibiotic took care of it. One thing afer another. I hope your gall bladder removal goes smoothly.

Thank you for your reply and input. I also have IBS which seems to be more likely to be affected by the gall bladder removal. I'm hearing that the colitis should be okay (or as okay as it can be). Did you try anything to reduce the gallstones before you had your gall bladder removed?

I was diagnosed with Colitis in 2004, it goes into periodic remission more then it is active. But when it is active, my lifestyle changes dramatically. I was diagnosed with gall stones in Oct 2007 to my surprise. I had my gall bladder out laproscopically in Nov 2007. I can't say my colitis got any worse. It is pretty status quo actually. In March I had a kidney stone that wouldn't pass due to the size. It was surgically removed. People with colitis don't absorb calcium like most people. The kidney stone was calcium based so that kind of explains that. I never knew what my gall stones were made of, I suspect they were calcium based as well. Guess I will never know now.

Hi--I am probably not the responder you were hoping for because I don't have colitis.. But since No One has responded, I feel compelled!
My son is the one diagnosed with Crohn's. I have more bowel issues and surg. than he has had, but no Dr. has ever mentioned Crohn's or even looked for it in my case and I seem to be doing ok...so I haven't rocked the boat.
Anyway--I had my gallbladder removed because there was a polyp in my gb. At first, after I no longer had a gallbladder, eating anything high-fat caused diarrhea. Whenever I threw up (due to illness) it seemed rougher than before--more bile, I guess. Now that it has been a few years, my body seems to have adjusted somehow. I need to not eat fatty foods(like donuts) but the occasional pizza, chinese food (not a ton) or a bowl of ice-cream don't immediately make me need to go...
It felt a lot better to not have the GERD anymore and to not have my stomach feeling so acid-y so much of the time.
