hypothalamic amenorrhea

Hi everyone,

I am 30 years old and was diagnosed with Crohn's disease approximately 6 years ago. I haven't had the smoothest ride so far and tried Humira last Fall. After about 4 months of it, the side effects got too severe, so I got off and started back on the 6mp. Unfortunately, I don't think the 6mp works like it should. I still experience issues regularly - mainly cramping and urgency to go, but also diarrhea and nausea sometimes too.

I started a new job back in mid-March. My last cycle was on April 19. I haven't had a period in approximately 16 weeks. I am currently on progesterone in hopes of jumpstarting my cycle. However, my obgyn called yesterday and said that based on my blood work, she suspects I have hypothalamic amenorrhea. Nothing has changed with my diet or exercise routine recently. If anything, I am eating more and moving less due to having a minor crohn's flare up.

So, I wanted to ask y'all if you had any experience with this type of thing. Do you think this could be caused by malnutrition from crohn's? Do you think it's the stress of a new-ish job?

I'm feeling quite defeated and at a loss right now, especially since my husband and I want to start trying for a baby this year. It's hard not to feel defeated after a while. Any advice or feedback y'all can provide is GREATLY appreciated!!!

Thanks in advance!

Love, Josie
