Bumpy Road

I was diagnose with Crohn's deisease back in 2001.  Since then I have been on a medical rollercoaster.  I've had fantastic days and days where I can hardley get out of bed.  I've been fortunate that the only surgery I have had thus far was to remove an abscess, however I can't begin to say how may different medications I have been on.  I started with asacol, moved to predinsone, then lialda and now humira (with a few others inbetween, but too many to list).  Frusterated beyond belief, the humira isn't working as well as it should and I'm not only experienceing a flair, but have been fighting a respiratory infection for over six weeks.

I have two small children and a husband and feel so helpless.  It hurts that I can't play with my children because I don't have enough energy, and I don't want them to see mommy sick.  My husband is wonderful and understand the smells, aches and pains, however it is still very depressing not being able to support my family they way a mother should.  I know that stress complicates the disease, but it hurts when my daughter doesn't think she can play outside because mommy doesn't feel well.

I know I'm going through a rough period and that my fantastic doctor will make me better - it is just hard to be optomistic when in such pain.

i just read your post. i was diagnosed with crohns in 2007.  i also have anklosyng spondylitis. it's the arthritis of crohns. it adds more pain to deal with. i am fifty and am having a terrible time dealing with this. my kids are grown, although one is still at home. my husband is also fantastic. i am always tired, in pain or just bitchy.  sometimes i have to just say "tough" to housework, laundry and anything else that needs to be done. i haven't always been like this and i have faith in god and my doctor that i will once again be able to take care of my house and family as well as work at a fulltime job.  give your self a break, and think positive. it will get better. let your husband know how valuable he is to you.  your kids will understand, they have lots of years ahead of them with you when you are well.  take care and god bless

I am a mother of two teen boys and I to feel bad when I don't get to do things with them . But on the days that I do feel good I go out and play Basketball with them (we have a hoop in our yard ) so the bathroom isn't far away. When its hot I have to stay inside the heat bothers me bad so we watch movies together. My boys also have video games so I will play with them like that (even though I don't like playing video games) for awhile to be able to spend time with them . I also try to do day trips with them to a local state park or the zoo . And they are getting old enough to where im teaching them to cook ,so they can fix dinner when Im having a bad day so they wont eat a bunch of junk food. They know that I try to make it up to them when Im having a good day sometimes they even come to me just to talk about there friends or what happened at school that day but im sure that wont last much longer since they just started high school this year .I also have a suggestion if your kids are young read to them before bed it will help all of relax.

Please do not feel  you're alone.  I am also a mom of two and have a great husband.  Just yesterday I snipped a little bit at my four year old and then I said, "sorry for being snippy," my four year old responded, "I'm sorry you're sick."  Today I'm feeling a little better but am still missing my mother in laws birthday party tonight.  I've been on every med also and they either give me MS side effects or worst diarhea than without!  Currently I'm on prednisone to calm down the flare up.  Good luck and hang in there.
