Loss of a Loved One

Fri, December 11, 2009 12:17 AM

I loss both of my parents in 10.5 mos. during '05 and '06.  My disease was flared up to almost no control even with the meds.  It was all the stress of having to deal with it all. My mom was the worst becuz she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 07/02/05 and passed 07/23/05.  I and my family never expected it and the speed to which she passed away.  My disease made me hurt all over becuz of the grief and the loss.  One thing I can say is that my mom was proud of me becuz I did not let it stop me from working and doing the things I like to do.  Sometimes the day of her bday and mom's day plus the anniversary of her death, my disease bothers me.

I believe many of us can share in that story.  (I lost both parent 6 years ago; 7 months apart.)  Just this past Wednesday, I had my cat of 19 years put down.  I was sick.  For two days after, my body hurt so bad, I knew I was not going to make it.  This is what stress does to us.  A lesson each and everyone of us needs to learn.

My best to you and know you are in my prayers.

I know how difficult the passing of loved ones can be.  My father died 3 months short of my wedding day.   It was a horrific time in my life.   Then unfortunately shortly thereafter both of his parents died too.   They were never the same and I am sure died of broken hearts.

It has been 18 years since my families demise and I would be lying if I said it were easy, but it does get easier.   You had mentioned how your illness hits when Mother's Day, birthday, anniv. day, I know how that goes too.

This is what I do.   We celebrate!   Sounds crazy, I know.   But, over the years I refuse to forget the single most important person to me that loved me unconditionally.   On my dad's birthday and Father's Day, my girls and I buy balloons and tie them off at the cemetary.   The next day we cut them loose and send them up to heaven.   This year we even packed a picnic lunch and headed to the beach.   On the anniversary of his death I "chillax" (that is what the kids call it these days.....chill-out and relax).  I use it as a day to remember and thank God for sharing this kind, generous man with me.   That day is my birthday, which for the record I changed to the following day.

Your mom will always be proud of you for all that you do to not let this disease bring you down.  It is okay to feel sick during these trying days, just know that your parents are watching over you always.

All my best to you.
