Anyone know of a good mental health professional who specializes in management of a chronic disease and all issues associated with this disease? Located in Kansas City. Trying to find one online is a mess.
Thanks!

I have been on Remicade since 02-2008. The two days that I made less that 12 trips to the restroom were red letter days. Glad to hear that Remicade is working so well for you.

Have you tried the Remicade treatment yet? I have been on it for 18 mos and I am so thankful that I have a "life" again. No more going to the bathroom 12-20 times a day. Getting amed tht controls your symptoms will help your mental outlook. It did mine!

Sounds like you and I may be in a similar stage. I have tried KU Med w/ no luck. I had a local psych a couple of years ago that had some sort of 12-step epiphany and decided that is what I needed. Holy cats!! Realized the doc was further out of it than I am. I have been placed on Entocourt again so have started working on the problem again. Everyone agrees that I have a Medication side effect problem, not a psych problem. Unfortunately my PCP feels it is the GI doc's problem to treat and the GI doc states it is the PCP who should treat w/ anti-depressants. Catch-22 anyone?!? I'm getting pretty tired of crying at the drop of a hat & of course very concerned about losing my job. Happy thoughts have just gotten impossible to pull up anymore. Not a whole lot of employers looking for a 60-year old employee. Seriously considering giving up and check into disability. Surely 12-20 trips a day to the restroom is a disability. Good luck. I'll let you know if I find anyone in this area.

In the Phoenix chapter they are able to give as a contact either a Psychologist or Psychiatrist, not sure which that also suffers from IBD. Try your local chapter, maybe they know someone to help you. Good Luck. Marilyn

I do not live in the KC area, but I would recommend reaching out to either your local CCFA office or your Gastro. They should be able to point you in the right direction (unless someone in this community has a direct contact).
