Prednisone Rage

Wed, April 28, 2010 12:00 AM

Hi everyone. I'm basically just wanting to vent. I have ulcerative colitis (pancolitis) and it has flared on and off since 2007. Currently on prednisone to stop this flare, and it is working so far. I've been on pred many times....so I know the drill for me. This time around though, I am just so angry and also have insomnia (which I know are fairly common side effects from this drug). I've relocated to a new state and haven't gotten around to getting involved with a new support group yet; so I came on here to just get a bit of emotional support.  Unfortunately, I don't get that support from my husband or children, so I just feel very angry and alone. Thanks for listening.

Hang in there!!

I've been on Prednisone before for my pancolitis and it's definitely not fun.  I would go on cleaning sprees at like 2 or 3 am.  I wanted to eat everything in site!  And I was moody, night sweats...terrible!

I was on Prednisone for 10 days for a sinus infection where there was some fluid in my ears and my moods were wayyyyy worse!

My boyfriend was nit-picking at me, and he was totally joking...but something he said just flipped a switch in my head and I just started screaming!  He was in shock...I'm typically a very laid-back person...and I rarely rarely rarely expose my Irish temper.  He couldn't believe that in the 4 years we have been dating, this was the angriest he had seen me.

Good Luck!!

I used to have bad mood swings while I was on prednisone and had no idea what to do about it.  I know how hard it is but it got sooooo much better once I tapered off the prednisone.

I hope you feel better

Thanks for the response and support. It made me smile after another day of trying to get a handle on my emotions.

Looking forward to getting off this prednisone

I think most of us have been there at some point. Though I haven't been on Prednisone, just Entocort, I still had all of the classic steroid symptoms because I was on it for months! I felt like I was going to rip people's heads off, for minor annoyances. It's horrible to feel that way. Hang in there! Try some meditation, deep breathing, perhaps yoga. For me, prayer helped too, if you're religious/spiritual. It kept me mindful, which I found helpful. And when all else fails, count to three (or ten or a hundred, whatever works) before reacting! I swear that basic counting saved my marriage while I was on Entocort!

Hang in there!
