meditating!

Thu, July 15, 2010 12:00 AM

I just went to a Reike treatment and oh my goodness was it ever amazing! I felt like my body was healed for a day! The lady that I went to is going to start teaching me how to meditate. She said that the brain has the ability to heal the body. Has anybody started meditating and felt that it was helping their disease in anyway. I am curious. I am a stress case some days and I am worried that this is why my disease will not go into remission. I am hoping that meditating will help. Any input would be so very much appreciated. Thanks a bunch!! Good luck to you all. We are not alone.

meditating... yoga... reiki... massage... accupuncture...My personal favorite is reflexology.  it took many tries 5 years to find the right provider.  I get a real high, and feel emotionally and physically better.  Stress can make your disease more active and worse.  and learning to manage and let go ... give yourself permission.  GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION was the greatest gift of my disease.  I practice it every day, in many different ways - sometimes I give other people permission:) and it's part of the reason I am still alive, married , and surviving after 10 years of severe crohn's.

I want to start meditating because I feel like it will help!

I'm and ICU/Open Heart nurse (stressful job), in grad school, my grandmother has been sick recently, and I'm attempting to figure out how to afford a wedding while I'm in grad school!!

I'm actually a very laid back, nonstressed kinda person...but lately I can tell it's taking a little bit of a toll.

Let me know how the meditating helps!!

Were you on meds prior to doing these therapies?  If so what?  How severe is your UC or Crohn's.

Asacol/Lialda didn't really work for me (made me feel worse), so I stopped them.  Dr. said the next step is Imuran which I would prefer not to take for as long as possible...and honestly I don't feel my UC is quite that bad yet.  I was just looking for alternative therapies that may assist in alleviating the symptoms (both UC and the secondary arthritis) and I've been interested in meditation I just didn't know how to get started...

Thanks for the info!!  Keep us posted!!

You could go into yoga studio's or in flyers at a community center. Even in event planners in your city or the phone book in the yellow pages. I am from Canada so I don't know if you have yellow pages or not.

I have not started meditating yet. I start in September in a group setting. She takes 6 or 7 people and does an eight week course. I preferred to do it this way. Mind you it would be nice to do a one on one session too. I am really lookin  forward to it. I will let you know how it goes.

How did you hear about where to go and was it a group session or an individual one? I have many time wanted to start but did not feel that starting on my own would be the most effective route.
