feeling like a leper

i feel like people won't make an emotional or physical investment in me because i'm sick. my best friend who is my roommate just told me she is moving out because me being sick is too *** her. my friends have stopped asking me to hang out because they think i'm too sick. i feel like my chance at relationships and even friendships is challenged because of this disease and the complications that go along with it.

i've heard so many times that friends who aren't willing to deal with me being sick aren't worth my time...but do people like that actually exist?

Wow, you really are going through a lot right now.  I posted on your other post about mono and pneumonia.  When my daughter was diagnosed with UC when she was 16, no one came over to visit.  She was so sick but not having anyone come over was making her feel worse.  She couldn't believe these were her "friends."  It was time for her to find different friends.  I can tell you this, it really made my daughter a stronger more compassionate person.  She now volunteers underprivalged kids and wants to make the world a better place.  My daughter just went away to college and one of her roommates was so worried about telling them that she was boarderline diabetic and she is running all kinds of tests and takes meds each day and has to watch her diet.  My daughter told her about her situation with UC, she takes meds each day and watches her diet.  My daughter was helping her new roommate cope and the new roommate felt so much better knowing someone else had empathy towards her situation.  It may be harder for younger people to understand what someone else is going through until they actually go through it.  You will find people out there who understand.  You will find new friends, you'll see.  You will feel better soon and go out and find new friends.  Thank goodness for this site, you know you are never alone.

Yes, there are still good hearted/natured people in the world.   I think it is at these challenging/difficult times when we find out who our true friends really are.   It may be time for you to find some new ones.   Don't look back at the past.....look for the future.

All my best.
