Newly Diagnosed

Newly DiagnosedMy journey started in 2007 whien I was 53 years old.  I was rushed tothe hospital with severe abdominal pain and vomiting.  I was told there was an obstruction insmall bowel.  As I had a previous colonoscopy that showed everything was normal, they just used an NG tube and no food to clear the obstruction.  This year, 2010, I have been hospitalized with obstructions 4 times!  No signs with another colonoscopy and endoscopy, but they did find an area of inflamation, ulceration, and narrowing in small intestine.  Ive been on Pentasa 500 mg (8 pills daily) and it hasnt helped.  Ive been weaned off Prednisone - no help.  By no help, I mean I still get obstructions if I eat normally.  I went to the hospital for a second opinion and they did a Double Balloon enterography that showed the inflamation/ulceration in the lower-middle of the small intestine and said its significant for Crohns.  My questions - Can you have Crohns with no other symptoms, but obstructions and occcasional constipation? Do I go on immunosuppresants or steroids and damage other parts of my body to hopefully stop these obstructions?  Can anything heal the small intestine?  Is this going to get progressively worse?  Will it soon "spread" to my colon? Any advice would help.  Thanks for listening.

I don't have a lot of experience with strictures but I think sometimes physicians/dieticians recommend low fiber/low residue for that as well.  Might want to read and compare that with SCD to see what is best for you.  My daughter is on 6MP and has done very very well.  But she had lots of other symptoms and needed the meds to get better.

Wishing you the best,

Thanks for the response, Alan.  I have read several comments about the SCD way of eating and I need to look into that more.  I'll google the rest and then at least I'll know what i'm talking about when I speak with my doctor.  -Debie
