I work in a school district and I could miss 1-2 days a week. But I continue to push myself. I'm so tired I don't know how many hours I could or would sleep if I could. Is this the way most of us feel?

Does an employer who only has 37 employees have to follow the FMLA?

Listen to what Gypsy says about FMLA. Just ask your administration for the papaerwork. It's easy for you and your doctor to fill out and with CD you will not be rejected. It will make your stress level go way down. You and I are the reasons this law was passed. They cannot refuse to give you the paperwork no matter what type of work you do.

I am a high school teacher.  I understand how you feel completely.  I take short naps during my planning period.  My school gets out and hour before my step-son's and I try to rush home for an hour nap in the afternoon.  I try to take it one day at time.  That approach tends to keep things from being as overwhelming.

Good luck to you!

If you haven't done so, you should consider getting yourself protected covered under  the (FMLA) Family Medical Leave Act .  This federal law  provides up to 12 weeks a year leave that can be taken intermittently when needed.  Your employer cannot fire or demote you for leave you take under FMLA.  Your employer also is required to pay their part of your health insurance premium.  This law is to protect people who have serious chronic illnesses.  I work in personnel and have urged many people to seek the benefits.  You will need a certification from your doctor but I've not seen a physician refuse to do this for a Crohn's patient.  Good luck and keep on keeping on.

I work in a school too.  I have near perfect attendance (Only missed two days) this year so far.  Yes I am exhausted but I already lost a job because of Crohn's Disease and I do not want that to happen again.
