Costly Crohn's

Thu, April 21, 2011 8:19 PM

I was diagnosed with Crohn's 11 years ago, and am currently on Asacol, Protonix, Folic Acid, and Azathioprine.  I had a nasty flare last month, and am slowly recovering.  The medical bills are obnoxious--just got a bill for 3 grand for a CT scan.  I have insurance, but obviously it does not pay everything.  I am still paying on last year's colonoscopy--and the bills keep piling up.  I am doing my best to maintain my job, and am married with 2 young sons.  Does anyone have any guidance or ideas or know of any assistance with medical expenses?  It is just a matter of time before the more expensive biologic therapies are going to be my only option.  It is a daily struggle not to worry that the tolls of my disease will hinder any opportunity that my children may have.  I appreciate your help!

I was told back in 2008 after years of problems that I had Crohn's . I already had IBS and diverticulois. I have been on double dosage of Lialda since. I recently had my liver counts go triple over normal on one and double over on the other. I decided to try. I have been going for three weeks and have stopped my Crohn's medicine completely and have had little to no symptoms. I was going to the bathroom 7-10 times daily and over the last three weeks are going 1-2 times daily. Has anyone else had this type of results and why had I never heard of it.

I don't know if there are assistance programs for medical bills but many pharmaceutical companies offer assistance to pay for their drugs.

But I have to agree that after using Asacol, steroids, antibiotics, Remicade and 6MP (and suffering many side effects), there are better natural options for gastro diseases. I got off the meds with the help of a healthy diet, probiotics, vitamins and supplements.
