I know its kinda a late reply, but I have had some issuses with fistulas in the past. Actually, its how I got diagnosed. Not sure how it ended up for you or if your still living with it, but I actually had about 6-12 ft of my small intestines and half my colon takin out because of them a few years ago. Your surgeon makes a huge difference, He saved me from having to have a bag, but I am sure one of these day it will happen. If you have any questions I am more than happy to answer them

High dose Remicade has helped me.  While the fistula is not closed it has made a dramatic difference.

Long history of Crohn's Disease and a 8 year history recta-vaginal fistula.  Make sure you are with doctors who specialize in fistulas related to Crohn's and Colitis.  If your insurance allows you, you may consider going to a specialist out of your area. Ask your doctor and the surgeon the question: "How many Crohn's/ Colitis fistula patients do you have?"
If the number is low, search for a specialist who treats many fistula patients.  So sorry you are suffering from a fistula!

Hey Annl,

My fistulas were sorta constant and medication and going into the O.R. to work on them had been just a quick fix basically.  I do know that its really important to say the least to stay on top of them.  Talking to a GI doctor or a colon rectal surgeon would be the best thing more then anything.  Do you have a GI doctor you like and have started a game plan on how to treat them?

Hey anni,
I have had Crohn's Disease for a long time, but I have had multiple fistulas.  How long have you had UC for?  Fistulas had been always a big problem with me and have had them worked on during operations for the Crohn's.   Have you talked to a Colon Rectal Surgeon or your GI doctor about it? Medication can treat them as well to.  My story is long with the CD, but I will certainly let you know what I know about them and my situation with handling them,  just let me know anytime?

Get well!,

Andrew
