I need to know

Has anyone ever experienced an eating disorder after suffering from Crohn's or UC?  When I was a teenager I went through a terrible time - I feel like it had a lot to do with the battle against Crohn's, the constant steroid use, weight up weight down, no control over life and constant life revolving around food in a way not to mention the anxiety that comes with the disease.  I am suffering again and I just want to know if anyone else out there has had this experience related to their Crohn's.  I would love to know that I am not alone in it.

I think I have an eating disorder and suffer from Crohn's. I am very familiar with "the battle against Crohn's, the constant steroid use, weight up weight down, no control over life and constant life revolving around food."   You/we are definitely not alone in this!

I have dealt with an eating disorder as well as my Crohn's Disease.  Which came first is hard to tell- Having Crohn's Disease makes you hate your body and feel out of control which is exactly what leads to the eating disorder.  Over-controling your food intake can also decrease your symptoms so it becomes what feels like a win-win situation.  Unfortunately it is the overall effect it has on your body that is harmful.  Love yourself and remember that you are in a fight to live the best life you can- and being healthy is the best way to do that.  You are not alone!!!!

One big thing that has carried over post-UC is that I do a lot better job of watching my portions.

But that is far from an eating disorder. I  can see how a UC or Chron's sufferer-even post UC, can look at food with a very jaded eye.

I never developed a full-blown disorder, but I definitely have a tenuous relationship with food and my body.  I don't fully trust either.  My weight can swing 20 pounds either way and it dramatically changes not only my self-image, but how others treat me.  I got the most compliments on my looks when I was grossly underweight.  Now that I'm "normal" weight, I feel "fat".  It definitely leaves a person confused.  I try to remember that it's not how I look but how I feel, yet these thoughts push themselves in every once in awhile.  I think I understand how you feel.
