I have been going through some rough flares. Spent the first night in the hospital for Crohn's ( a inflamed colon). I used to go to work with initiative to accomplish goals and a be successful in what I do. Know I just do not care.
I know that I am blessed to have a job, but struggling with this disease has taken away my drive for work, exercising, and even spending time with my family. I am so tired all the time. I sleep at different times through out the night. Just sick every day.
Does anyone have any advice on how to get the drive back?

I suffered from UC for 3 1/2 and then started researching online. My husband was my donor and it has now been almost 4 months of being back to normal, having normal bowel movements - no gas, no cramps, no urgency, no blood, etc. I am back to eating anything I want after 6 months on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet.
If you would like to read my story and see links to other articles, email me.
Just don't give up thinking it is hopeless - there is another way. I am not on any drugs and completely symptom free.
These digestive issues are caused by a imbalance in the bacteria in your gut, most likely from antibiotic use or sometimes food poisoning.
Just google Fecal Transplant and you will find how it is being used to heal digestive issues - I had UC and it healed me.

Hi,
I can totally relate. Give yourself a break! There is no way you can focus when you're in pain...the only thing you can do is take care of yourself! That doesn't mean have a pity party; i mean get your disease under control. If you need to take a short team medical leave and can, do it. If you take the time to get better, don't run yourself ragged and have compassion for yourself, you will see it's ok to take a break from whatever you need to get better. Once you are feeling better, which may include lighter exercise, more sleep, a visit to your doctor, and good nutritional counseling, you can begin to feel motivated again. I recommend also this book/cd that made everything soooo much easier when I was in constant pain: "FULL CATASTROPHE LIVING" by John Kabat Zinn. It's a meditation program for people in medical crisis, but works even when things are better. I got through grad school while I had a terrible intestinal infection and flare up using this book. It's a miracle I did it.
I promise your focus and drive will return when you FEEL BETTER.
Engage your friends, family, doctors, HR, whoever you need to make your life easier. It's such a tough thing to do when you're a motivated, driven active person (like me) to admit you need to take it down a notch and take care of yourself. You can only take care of others when you are taken care of and healthy.
Hang in there! And let me/us know what else you need. Just talking here seems to help.
Been there, done that and lived to tell.

Hi Master Crohns -
Sorry to read about your challenges. It may help to surround yourself with positive people that care about you or with other Crohn's patients who know what your are going through -- Check out a CCFA support group in your area or a "Power of Two" program for one on one telephone or email support.
Exercising may be the last thing on your mind .... but there are a lot of benefits of regular exercising. It can help improve health and well being and can help improve your mood. It does not have to be high impact or backbreaking exercise -- take a short walk around the block - rake some leaves -- better still help your elderly neighbors rake their leaves and get an emotional boost. Check with your doctor before beginning and exercise program Finally start keeping a journal to write down your thoughts it can help to free your mind by writing down your thoughts.
If you want to talk or vent - the staff of the Information Resource Center will listen -- call us at (888) 694-8872 (M-F) 9-5 et.
