I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease 4 months ago, but have been having symptoms for about an year. Thanks to you all and this forum, I have learned a lot!! I'm having my first surgery next week to remove about 5" of my illeum. I was wondering if you have any tips on what to bring to the hospital, or what to have at home for the recovery. Thanks!! Stay strong!

I have a question for you....is the surgery you are having the same as the J pouch procedure?
i have had U.C for about 13 yrs and barely learning through this site about the process of the prcoedures.

Just bring your phone and a charger to the hospital - everything else will be a blur:) You will be incredibly surprised at how little core strength you have after surgery. Like just getting in and out of bed, reaching for a pan, putting on pants or unplugging something from an outlet become monumental tasks. Make sure you have someone around to help you out for at least a week and you will be fine.
Good luck with your surgery! I still remember the terrible pain coming out of the OR, but it was all worth it. I have been in remission for 5 years now and surgery is what got me my life back.
