I was only recently diagnosed with Crohn's after YEARS of being told I had IBS and after a few short months of officially having Crohn's they are introducing the idea of me having a proctocolectomy! I don't know what to do, I'm scared and I would be soooo appreciative if someone else could talk to me (I also have email and Instagram if that helps)

I had the procedure done. But, I was super sick and asocol and prednisone weren't doing the job. If you are having too frequent flare ups and bowel discomfort, maybe you should consider it. If you decide to do it, you should do it soon because of your health for recovery. It's a 2 part procedure that is a literal pain in the behind!!! But it worked for me.
Hi, first off let me say sorry that you have this condition. Not fun. I had the surgery in 1999, one of the first guinea pigs back then, but it does work. Obviously I am still on a support forum so I am not cured. I was not doing well before the surgery so I didn't have much choice. You should always get a second opinion but if your Dr.s are feeling this is right and the medicines are not working then you kind of have to. You will need some support people as you are going to be down for at least 1.5 to 2 weeks for the initial surgery. I forgot the last number but based on whether people feel surgery was the right choice it was overwhelmingly <br /> affirmative. Tough decision though, getting replumbed, there is no going back. Best of luck. I am available if you wish to talk via email.
