I had surgery in early 2012 to remove roughly 13 inches of large and small intestine. I currently live with an osteomy, had a 20 lb weight limit, and almost no teeth. Social security has dropped me stating that I am suddenly no longer disabled. My local state has turned me down 3 times in a row to receive any kind of assistance. Now I have to health coverage and don't know how long I will be able to make my supplies last.<br /> Please Help

I hear what you are saying about getting benefits and support after something like this has happened. You may have to hire someone to help. There are even non-lawyers who will assist for a reasonable fee AFTER you get your benefits. Think about it this way: What do I need?? Emergency supplies or regular, on-going supplies? Am I going to return to work? Then you will be insured if you work full time. Do I need disability? Medicaid? Food stamps? If you are planning on disability you will need to be organized and methodical in your approach. If you don't think you can handle it get help. Disability claims requests can take months. Go to the Social Services office (Be prepared to be treated rudely) and ask about emergency funds to cover the costs for ostomy supplies. Depending on your state this may be covered. Find out if there is an ostomy support group near you. They will help you through this. Good Luck!
