I am schedule to have a Total Colectomy with J-Pouch this Wednesday. I was wondering if there was anyone here who has had this surgery that would be able to give me any words of encouragement and/or suggestions?
Thank you

I had the surgery in 2003 and have had a lot of problems with pouchitis, fistulas and now have to deal with Crohn's disease, but I can honestly say, with all my problems it's still better than the colitis. And as a nurse pointed out to me when I had the surgery, no need to worry about getting colon cancer.

Thank you for your post, I appreciate that. And I plan on posting my progress as much as I can after surgery.

Hello,
I am new to this forum but I noticed your post about the total colectomy for...tomorrow! I had a colectomy in January with a J pouch formation in March and a reversal in May. It is quite an experience to say the least but I feel a million times better now then I did a year ago. There will be ups and downs along the way but try to stay positive. Please reach out if you have any specific questions. I feel as though I am still learning things about these conditions and treatment and surgery options but I did go through the surgery and would love to help/support in any way I can!
