Pre-cancerous polyps

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have experience with having discovered precancerous polyps during your colonoscopy? If so, what was the recommended course of action you received.

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I received the same diagnois on my last two pathology reports (Oct. 2016 & June 2017). High Grade Dysplasia found in the Cecum. I've spoken to a surgeon and to a couple of doctors. It is a very hard and personal decision to make. If you are in pain or in flare and your UC is hurting your enjoyment of life and making your life miserable then I would lean towards surgery. I, personally, receive Remicade infusions every 6 weeks and, other than the couple of hours it takes to get my infusion, I feel perfectly fine the rest of the time. Absolutely no pain, no diarreah, no bleeding, no issues with eating and no side effects from the Remicade. It is because I feel so well that I am electing to closely monitor my high grade dysplasia with more frequent colonoscopy exams. Should my GI find more than the one high grade dysplasia spot(s) reported on future pathology reports or other serious changes are noted, I will definitely rconsider surgery to be a more viable option. My high grade dysplasia is not a polyp that can be removed as it is very flat. Of course my GI and the Surgeon feel anyone diagnosed iwth High Grade Dysplasia of this kind should immediately have their colon removed and a 2nd surgery to a J-Pouch (if a candidate for one). I wish you the best! It's a very tough and personal deicsion that only you can make as you have to live with the outcome. My GI scared me straight into the surgeons office. It is while I was trying to work out how I was going to pay for the surgeries that I started researching and reading the forums in other countries where they don't automatically jump to surgery when high grade dysplasia is found. The US seems to elect for the immediate surgery to remove the risk factor for any cancer development. Of course, wiating too long may require more than just removal of your colon, you may have also subjected yourself to the need to get Chemo and/or Radiation treatments and the possibility that a JPouch won't even be an option anymore. Toughest decision of my life right now. Best Wishes to you!
