Hello everyone, My name is Michael,
I just wanted to give some encouragement to someone that might be deciding if they should have surgery or not.
I had (key word HAD!!) Ulcerative Colitis for almost 3 years before I resorted to surgery. I had my first surgery on 11-30-2016. It is now June 12 2017, and I am planning on having my takedown surgery in July or August this year. Surgery is scary to think about. I went through every class of medication available except Immunosuppressants. I work in the medical field and I knew that taking that class of medicine would do more harm than good. Not to mention all the possible side affects.
The first surgery went well, I did have a few complications while in recovery. The recovery was expected to be 5-7 days in hospital and 2-3 weeks at home. Due to some of the complications I ended up 15 days in hospital and almost 2 months at home. I think that time frame to recover is rare. For one thing, due to the unforseen complications I had. Every YouTube video, every Internet search I have done I have only came across a few people who had complications as I did.
The reason I even mention those things is to tell you, that even having to deal with all of that, in the long run it is well worth it. And even though I have one more surgery to go through, I know that after recovery I will not regret any of it.
Feel free to email me at m_schonherr@yahoo.com if you have any questions or just need someone to talk to about what your going through.
