How long before next surgery

Fri, September 05, 2008 12:00 AM

I am recovering from my 1st small bowel resection and feel great right now.  I know CD never goes away and am wondering how long I will feel good?  I also know everyone has different stories and I have read almost every post but haven't heard how long in between surgeries most people can go.

I had my first resection November of 2007. Before my surgery, Crohn's was confined to my small intestine. I just found out this past week that it is now in my small intestine, colon, and rectum. I am not trying to be negative, but I thought that the surgery would make me feel better for a long while and I was devastated to know that it returned not even a year later. Hopefully, your case will be different.

My surgery was on Christmas eve, 1972.  I was 13.  I would say that I still suffer from mild Chron's, but my symptoms have remained fairly stable since about a year after the surgery.  And, I have not had any other surgeries since then.

My disease was discovered until my pediatrician opened me up for what he thought was an appendectomy.  My symptoms had been present to varying degrees for about 5 years, but never severe enough to cause concern.

Here's hoping you have the same success that I have had.

Hello, I had my first resection in March of this year. It went well and I felt better and started to gain weight. Then a month later I have also lost weight. and I go for a upper and a lower colonoscopy and I think its call endoscopy. I could be wrong. next month I go. but Im in alot a pain. Thats hows its been for me after surgery. But everyone is different.

Hello,  Geez theres really no clear answer for the question.  Everyone is different.  For me it was almost twenty years between resections.  Other people that i've read about have them almost every year.  So i guess it depends on the severity of the disease. Not much help but like all crohns problems its hard to put a hand on it.  Hope this helped.  Postal-me
