Hi all,
Im scheduled to have my J-pouch takedown surgery next week and will be getting rid of the dreadful bag. While Im excited and can hardly wait, theres another part of me that is a little firghtened as I dont know what to expect. Some people love their j-pouch, others hate it.
Im looking for advice on foods that were easy to eat/digest, how the pain rates compared to the first surgery, good items to pack and take to the hospital, etc. Also, how much Immodium AD did folks have to take, and for how long?
Any advice would be MUCH APPRECIATED as I want to do everything that I can to make the process a smooth one. I guess the rest is up to fate, God, and science.
Best to all of you on this site. The CCFA community is the BEST!

I just joined this site and wish it was around in 1983 when I was sick and had my j-pouch surgery after fighting for 2 years with what they said was Crohn's thenswitched to ulcerative colitis. While you may not feel all that great at the moment, please know you will. I am one who loves the j pouch. Yes, in the 25 years (it was so new when I got the surgery) I've had a j-pouch I've done triathlons, half marathons, had 3 kids, got married (not necessarily in that order)... you just have to watch out for yourself. Remember, no one can feel what you feel. At the moment, you may hate your visits to the bathroom because it literally feels like you're pooping fire, but it does go away. Drink LOTS of water. USE CALMOSEPTINE!!!!!!! This is a diaper rash ointment that some hospitals swear by. I order it by the case. It has menthol in it and aleviates the horror of going to the bathroom. I tried everything... this is the very best. Some surgery supply stores have it. Go to www.calmosptine.com and get some NOW. It will save your sanity. I hope all is well, I really do. Please let me know how you're doing!!!
